I am pleased to launch BoardSide Advisory, created to work exclusively with Boards and other governing groups to help them operate more effectively and deliver better outcomes for their organisations.
We believe being a director of an organisation should not be daunting nor shrouded in concern that you will do the wrong thing. We will help you focus on the things that really make a difference at the Board table and help make the experience transparent, fulfilling and enjoyable. It is like so many things - you don’t know what you don’t know and we will help make the Director journey a little more navigable for you.,
In my extensive work with Boards around Australia, it is clear to me that the great majority of directors want to do the right thing by their organisations and by the law. However, they are often somewhat immobilised by uncertainty, confronted by a plethora of legislative and regulatory obligation and daunted by media reports of directors going astray and being held to account. For many directors that translates to a lack of assuredness about their role and a reticence to act boldly, innovatively and decisively.
We at BoardSide believe the exercise of directorship does not have to be that difficult or unnerving. Exercising common sense in pursuit of the best interests of your organisation and doing so with integrity will get you a long way. We advocate a straightforward, logical, questioning and open approach to governance.
While there are a number of ‘Board Readiness’ courses available in the market. We have found from experience that many boards have neither the time nor the resources to devote several weeks to an intensive training program for each director. This is particularly true in organisations formed to serve a community, be it schools, community clubs, not-for-profits or special interest research groups, At BoardSide we offer an alternative. A ‘pay it forward’ model in which we draw on the passion and experience we have developed over our careers in order to cater an offering that works for your individual needs.
We encourage you to have a preliminary conversation with us regarding some steps you can take as a board to begin your improvement journey. In particular, let us help you reduce some of the recurrent static that can be holding you back from being the best board you can be.
